About Molly
Some of my earliest memories of school involve wanting to look away from the teacher and reach into my desk for my crayons so I could start doodling. I have always been drawn to color and design. I remember staring at certain logos with my head tilted, thinking, “huh.” Something about them sparked curiosity in me. That same childlike wonder lives on today through my brand, and in the ways I get to create through it.
When I was 15, my dad gave me a camera for Christmas. In the summers that followed, my friends, sisters, and I would drive around my hometown, chasing good lighting and finding little hidden places to take photos. Those moments slowly grew into what is now Molly Amber Photography. I especially love portrait work. There is something really meaningful about helping people see themselves clearly and feel confident in who they are.
I have always been drawn to creating as a way to feel more grounded. There is something so calming about working with your hands while also using the creative side of your brain. That same feeling is what led me to pick up the guitar, along with my love for music.
I am a sensitive person, something I thought I needed to manage, but I’ve come to see it as one of my greatest strengths. It shapes how I see the world and the way I create within it.
Everything I make is an extension of that. All of my creative endeavors have been born because of that feeling - a pull to share that piece of myself with the world.
I currently live in West Des Moines, where I spend my days working with elementary aged children with special needs. In the evenings, you can usually find me making something with beads or with a paintbrush in my hand, with my dog, Katherine, at my feet. I am also always slowly working on a poetry book that I hope to share one day, although it has been in progress for nearly ten years now.
Drawn by my talented friend, Kelbryn.
